Another Read aloud!

I read the story, There was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Trout written by Teri Sloat. Before my read aloud I was looking through the classroom library for a book that I really liked and that I thought the children would enjoy. The book did not need to be a specific theme because I was reading right before silent reading time. The intention of this read aloud was just to get the children settled down and share a nice story with them. I found the book There’s a Nightmare in my Closet my Mercer Mayer and I thought this would be a good story. I was reading through the book quickly just before the read aloud and found that the main character shoots the nightmare in his closet and I thought that was not very appropriate and that if a parent walked in they might not appreciate that. So in desperation I asked Mike for help and he shared this great Alaskan story with me. I read the story to the children and this time I felt much more comfortable reading to the children. I allowed them to sing along with me. At the end of the story I asked them if they would get a stomachache if they are the ocean. We all enjoyed this story and the children were so quiet and well behaved that I put a stone in their jar. I was very pleased with this reading because Mike left the classroom for the entire reading time to help another teacher and while he was gone Alexis and I were able to do just fine with the little ones.
